FIT is a college of the State University of New York. In addition to state funding, it receives support from the Board of Education of the City of New York. This assistance allows the college to offer the tuition rates noted below.

All matriculating students new to FIT, including visiting students and new matriculants to the upper division, are required to confirm their acceptance with a non-refundable advance tuition payment of $100.00 as soon as they are notified of admission. The following schedules of fees are effective for the 1999-2000 academic year:

Tuition: Full-Time Program (Fall and Spring)
Associate-level New York City/State residents $1300.00-per semester
Associate-level out-of-state residents $3250.00-per semester

Baccalaureate-level New York City/State residents $1552.00-per semester
Baccalaureate-level out-of-state residents $3778.00-per semester

Graduate-level New York City/State residents $2288.00-per semester
Graduate-level out-of-state residents $5111.50-per semester


Tuition: Evening, Weekend, Summer, and Winter Sessions
Associate-level New York City/State residents $109.00-per credit*
Associate-level out-of-state residents $265.00-per credit*

Baccalaureate-level New York City/State residents $130.00-per credit*
Baccalaureate-level out-of-state residents $322.00-per credit*

Graduate-level New York City/State residents $224.00-per credit*
Graduate-level out-of-state residents $478.00-per credit*

Tuition and fees are subject to change without prior notice at the discretion of the college Board of Trustees.

Tuition paid by check or money order must be in the exact amount.

Residency
To qualify as a New York City resident, the applicant must have established legal residence in New York State for a period of at least one year, and in New York City for a period of at least six months, both immediately preceding the date of registration.

To qualify as a New York State resident, the applicant must have established legal residence in New York State for a period of at least one year, and in a county outside of New York City for a period of at least six months, both immediately preceding the date of registration. A New York State resident must provide the college with a certificate of residence signed by the county treasurer of the applicant's home county. Applicants who do not provide the required certificate are charged out-of-state tuition.

*Tuition is charged for non credit-bearing courses. Lectures, laboratories, and workshops are billed at different rates.

Student Activity $ 105.00-per semester
Required by Student Council regulations. The fee includes the cost of accident insurance and partially funds the Health Service.

Late payment 1.5%-per month on balance

Placement test $ 25.00
Locker rental $ 10.00-per student per semester
Patternmaking course $ 25.00-per course
Laboratory $ 10.00-per course
Fee is charged to each part-time student who registers for a course requiring life/fashion models and/or the use of certain specialized equipment/materials.
Offsetting service $ 5.00-per semester
Fee is charged to part-time students.
Late examination $ 25.00
Health insurance $ 366.00-per year
This insurance must be purchased by all full-time students unless evidence of other coverage is submitted. The rate shown is for domestic students.

Books and supplies cost between $600.00-$900.00 (depending on major) per semester.

Housing
On-campus student residential facilities include dormitory and apartment-style accommodations; charges vary according to building. Dormitory charges include a meal plan in the college dining room; residents of the apartments have the option to purchase a meal plan. In all cases, limited hospital and accident insurance is included. Rates are subject to change without prior notice at the discretion of the college Board of Trustees.

Typical charges for student residents are:

¡Ü dormitory room and meal plan; $2,894.50 per semester.
¡Ü apartment rentals, excluding meal plans, range from $2,107.50 per semester to $2,677.50 per semester.
¡Ü a $40.00 telecommunications fee per semester.
