보스턴 칼리지는 1863년에 예수회에서 설립하였으며, 교양 과목에 기초를 두고 타인을 위한 봉사를 강조하는 예수회의 정신을 실천하고 있다. 메사추세츠 주 Chestnut Hill의 200에이커규모 캠퍼스에 위치한 학교는 교외의 전원을 즐길 수 있으면서 6마일 거리에 있는 보스턴의 도시생활도 접할 수 있는 이상적인 환경을 제공한다. 단과 대학은 College of Arts and Sciences, Wallace E. Carroll School of Management, Connell School of Nursing과 Lynch School of Education이 있으며, 총 8,900명의 학부생이 재학중이다.
보스턴 칼리지의 교육 프로그램은 핵심 커리큘럼 중심으로 짜여져 있다. 핵심 커리큘럼은 단과 대학에 따라 세부 사항은 다르지만 공통적으로 문학, 자연과학, 작문, 철학, 신학, 사회과학, 현대 유럽사, 수학, 미술과 비유럽 문화 연구 등으로 구성되어 있다.

교내에는 8개의 도서관이 설치되어 있으며, 총 200만 권 이상의 장서, 400만 개 이상의 마이크로필름, 약 214,600건의 정부 문서, 7,200피트 분량의 필사본과 다양한 영상 및 기록물을 소장하고 있다. 컴퓨터를 갖고 있는 학생은 교내 정보 네트웍인 Agora를 통하여 Quest를 비롯한 다양한 정보 데이터베이스를 활용할 수 있다. 최첨단 기기가 완비된 연구시설은 현대 과학에서 필요로 하는 장비를 계속 도입할 수 있도록 설계되었다. 최근에 증축된 Higgins Biology and Physics Center 강의실, 연구실, 컴퓨터실과 사무공간을 골고루 갖추고 있다
