캘리포니아, LA에서 1시간 거리에 위치하고 있는 Cal Arts는 1961년 Walt and Roy Disney의 비전 아래 Los Angeles Conservatory of Music 과 Chouinard Art Institute이 합쳐지면서 세워진 기관이다. 창조성과 실험정신을 바탕으로 시각예술과 공연예술을 함께 배울 수 있는 미국 서부지역에서 가장 대표적인 예술학교로한국인들에게도 잘 알려져 있다.

Cal Arts는 Dance, Music, Art, Film/Video그리고 Theater분야에서 학위를 주고 있으며, 1995년에는 Writing Program이 추가 되었다. Disney사의 후원을 받는 만큼 Animation으로는 미국 내 최고 수준을 자랑하며, 음악대는 인도, 아프리카 등 각종 국제음학의 흐름과 이론을 연구하는 곳으로 미국 내에서 가장 좋은 장소로 꼽히고 있다.
Cal Arts는 학생들에게 예술의 미래를 창조할 수 있는 비전을 제시하고 스스로 연구하고 개발 할 수 있도록 가르친다. 입학 기준 역시 학생의 창조적 재능을 우선으로 꼽는다. 학교 입학요강을 보면 알 수 있듯이 전학교의 성적이나 수험성적(SAT, GRE)도 고려하지 않는다. 따라서 토플 성적도 학교에서 정한 기준이지만 얼마든지 상황에 따라 다르게 적용되어질 수 있다고 볼 수 있다.
Cal Arts에는 유학생이 전체 학생의 8% 정도를 차지하고 있다. 학생의 평균연령은 대학 신입생이 22.2세, 대학원생은 27.7세에 이르고 있어 이미 대학을 졸업한 학생이나 직장 경력자들이 많이 지원해 오고 있음을 알 수 있다.
