1829년 설립된 RIT"s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences는 사립대학으로서 6개의 학교로 구성되어있다. 1300에이커의 캠퍼스를 가진 뉴욕주에서 세 번째로 큰 규모를 자랑하는 이 학교는 백년 전통의 순수미술로부터 최근의 digital media art에 으르기까지 세계적으로도 인정 받는 흥미롭고 차별화 된 교육프로그램을 제공하고 있다. 특히 시각예술분야에서는 타 학교와 비교할 수 없는 포괄적인 교과과정을 제공하고 있으며, 소수 그룹별 강의로 활발한 의견교환을 통해 교수와의 친밀한 관계 속에서 각자의 능력을 극대화할 수 있도록 고무한다. 또한 학생들에게 Bevier Gallery, SPAS Gallery 그리고 Gallery r에서 졸업 전 여러 번의 모의전시를 열 수 기회가 제공된다.
학부생은 11,000명의 Full-time 학생과 1,900명의 Part-time 학생으로 구성되어 있으며 2,300명의 대학원생이 재학 중이며 90개국의 외국으로부터 온 유학생들이 있다. 1,100명의 청각 장애 학생들도 등록 되어 있는 것으로 알려져 있다.
