1867년 설립되었으며, 문화, 교육 도시로 알려진 보스톤에 위치하고 있다. 아티스트초청, 각 분야 최고 전문가의 강의, 여러 공연 기회 획득, 기타 전문가들의 접촉과 방송망과의 연결 기회가 많이 주어지고 있으며 이런 다양한 기회로 인해 보다 폭넓고 깊이 있는 수준의 교육을 받을 수 있다. Emerson College, Berkelee College of Music, Museum School, Massachusetts College of Art, Boston Architectural Center 와 함께 교환 수강이 가능한 Pro-Arts Consortium 을 구성하고 있다. 거의 모든 유명 프로덕션에서 배우들을 선발하기 위해 캐스팅 정책을 개방하고 있으며 소극장에서 소규모의 연극 제작이 연중 계속되는데 졸업반 학생들이 직접 기획, 제작하고 있다. 보스톤은 50여개의 크고 작은 대학이 위치한 미국내 주요 도시중 하나로서 다양한 코스, 강연, 콘서트, 사교 기회 등이 제공되는 곳이기도 하다.
