  • Composition: A minimum of 18 semester hours or its equivalent in undergraduate courses

   MA in Music Education (Professional Studies)
  • A high standard of musical skill, consistent with an Eastman bachelor’s degree
  • Breadth of musical and general educational preparation
  • Skills in academic writing
  • Teaching experience is strongly recommended
  • This degree may be pursued through full-time study or through summers-only study (in four consecutive summers).
   MA in Musicology
  • Substantial undergraduate coursework in music history and music theory
  • Proficiency in a foreign language (highly recommended)
  • Placement exams in music history and theory, which are taken by all incoming graduate students at the Eastman School

Take Five Scholars Program

FORTE Program

The FORTE (four years plus teaching experience) program is a ninth semester of tuition-free enrollment for selected music education majors at the Eastman School.

Dual Degree

Applicants who wish to obtain both a BM degree from Eastman and a BA or BS degree from the College must complete two separate application processes

Musical Arts Major

The Musical Arts major (MUA) is an honors curriculum that enables students to craft an individualized program of study, undertaken in consultation with a faculty committee and an appointed MUA Mentor and MUA Advisor that leads to a senior project.
