앰머스트 칼리지는 매사추세츠 주 Amherst에 위치한 문리대학으로 1821년에 설립되었으며, 대학의 초대 이사회에는 사전 편찬으로 유명한 Noah Webster도 포함되어 있었다. 대학은 일본 교토에 있는 도시샤 대학과 자매관계를 맺고 있기도 하다.
앰머스트는 미국에서도 가장 개방적인 커리큘럼을 가지고 있는 것으로 유명하다. 1학년 첫학기에 First Year Seminar의 주제를 선택해서 수강하는 것 이외의 필수사항은 없다. 학위를 받기 위해서는 31가지의 기타 과목을 선택해서 수강해야 하며, 학과별 졸업요건을 충족시켜야 한다.
앰머스트는 Pioneer Valley 지역의 대학 연합체인 Five Colleges 컨소시엄 소속으로, 재학생은 컨소시엄에 소속된 다른 대학의 강의를 수강할 수 있다. 교내의 Robert Frost 도서관은 장서 약 100만 권, 정기간행물 10,632종 및 45,139종의 시청각 자료를 소장하고 있다. 기타 시설로는 Mead 미술 박물관, 앰머스트 러시아 문화센터, 앰머스트 칼리지 자연사 박물관 등이 있다.
