1885년에 설립된 조지아 공대는 애틀랜타시 북부 Midtown 지구에 위치하고 있는 University System of Georgia에 소속된 공립대학이다. 대학은 U.S. News & World Report가 집계하는 공립대학 순위 10위 안에 지속적으로 그 이름을 올리고 있다.
대학은 건축대학, 전산대학, 공학대학, 경영대학, 교양대학과 과학대학의 6개 단과대학으로 구성되어 있는데, 다양한 다학제 학위 프로그램과 연구센터를 통하여 대학간의 교류도 활발하다. 최근 들어서는 공공정책, 국제관계, 경제학, 현대어, 역사/사회학, 커뮤니케이션/문화연구나 디지털 미디어와 같은 다양한 분야에 대한 학위 프로그램도 확충하고 있다.

대학 캠퍼스는 West, East, Central Campus와 Technology Square로 구분되어 있다. West와 East 캠퍼스에는 주로 기숙사와 친목클럽 숙사가 위치하고 있으며, 주요 교육, 연구 및 행정시설은 Central 캠퍼스에 위치해 있다. Technology Square에는 경영대학, 회의장 및 교내 벤처 등이 자리잡고 있다. 대학의 도서관/정보센터는 장서 213,128권, 연속간행물 26,068종 및 329,981종의 시청작자료를 보유하고 있다. |
