노스캐롤라이나 주의 Winston-Salem에 위치한 웨이크 포레스트 대학은 노스캐롤라이나
침례교 협회가 웨이크 카운티에 위치한 600에이커 규모의 농지를 매입하여
Wake Forest Manual Labor Institute라는 이름으로 1834년에 개교하였다. 1839년에
Wake Forest College라는 이름으로 교명을 변경했고, 대학이 위치한 마을은
웨이크 포레스트라는 이름으로 불리우게 되었다.
웨이크 포레스트의 학부 과정은 Wake Forest College, undergraduate school of arts
and sciences와 Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy로
구성되어 있다. 대학은 34개 전공 및 다양한 분야의 다학제 부전공을 제공한다.

Wayne Calloway School에 입학하려면 특별 전형을 신청해야 하는데, 학교에서는 5년 과정의 회계학 프로그램을 통해 학/석사과정을 이수하고 석사학위와 CPA 자격을 동시에 취득하는 프로그램을 제공한다.
학사학위 과정은 기본필수과정과 전공과정으로 나뉘는데, 기본필수과정은 신입생 세미나, 작문 세미나, 건강 및 체육수업과 외국어 문학 등이 있다. 학생은 전공과 부전공 과정을 이수할 수 있는 것은 물론, 2개 부전공이나 복수전공도 가능하다.
웨이크 포레스트의 도서관 시스템은 4개 도서관으로 이루어져 있는데, Z. Smith Reynolds 도서관을 중심으로 한 시스템은 923,123권의 장서, 16,449종의 정기간행물과 21,055개의 시청각 자료를 보유하고 있다. 대학은 2003년에 Princeton Review에 의해 네트웍이 가장 잘 갖춰진 대학 2위로 선정되는 등 기술 부문에 대한 투자로도 유명하다. 대학 전역에서 고속 유무선 인터넷을 사용할 수 있다. 재학생은 4년간 기숙사가 보장되며, 1, 2학년생은 의무적으로 교내에 거주해야 한다. 기숙사는 에어콘, 수납공간, 유무선 인터넷이 갖춰져 있고, 공용 라운지와 조리 공간이 있다.
