UCLA라는 약칭으로 잘 알려진 캘리포니아 대학 로스엔젤레스 캠퍼스는 로스앤젤레스의
주거지구인 Westwood에 위치하고 있다. 1919년에 설립된 이 캠퍼스는 캘리포니아 대학
에서 두 번째로 오래된 캠퍼스이고, 재학생 규모로는 캘리포니아 주 최대를 자랑한다.
UCLA는 미국 과학재단이 발표한 공립 연구대학 순위에서 1위를 차지했고 Washington
Monthly 2006년 9월호에 발표된 대학순위에서는 4위에 오르는 등 그 실력을 인정받고 있다.
1923년에 설립된 College of Letters and Science는 캘리포이나 대학 내의 최대 단과
대학으로, 34개 학과와 900명의 교수진을 보유하고 있으며 인문학, 사회과학, 생명과학,
물리과학과 국제 연구소의 5개 학부가 속해 있다.

전문대학원에는 학부생 약 3,000명과 대학원생 약 6,000명이 재학중인데, 미술/건축학교, Henry Samueli 공학/응용과학 학교와 연극/영화/TV학교는 학부와 대학원 과정을 모두 제공하며 교육/정보학 대학원, Anderson 경영대학원, 공보대학원과 법학대학원은 대학원 과정만을 제공한다.
의학 관련 학교로는 David Geffen 의학 학교, 간호 학교, 치의학 학교와 공중보건학교 등이 있다. 대학은 2005년에 줄기세포 생물학/의학 연구소 설립 5개년 계획을 발표한 바 있다.

UCLA는 419에이커 규모의 캠퍼스에 163개의 건물로 이루어져 있다. 대학 도서관은 12개 도서관과 11개 문서 보관소, 열람실 등의 부속시설로 이루어져 있으며, 장서 800만 권 이상과 정기간행물 7만 종 이상을 보유하고 있다. 학부생용 기숙사는 14개 단지로 약 8,000명을 수용하는데, 숙사의 종류는 화장실을 공동으로 사용하는 고층 기숙사와 다인실 방식의 저층 기숙사가 있다. 학생은 3년동안 기숙사가 보장되며, 2010년까지 4년간 기숙생활이 가능하도록 하는 계획이 진행중이다.
