Parsons는 100년의 전통을 자랑하는 미국의 대표적인 미술학교이다. 뉴욕 멘하탄 5번가에 위치하고 있으며, 1896년 설립 이후로 세계적인 아티스트, 디자이너, 건축가, 광고전문가, 사진가, 일러스트레이터 및 비평가들을 발굴해냈다. 현재 활약중인 동창 중에는 패션계의 Donna Karan, Isaac Mizrahi, Anna Sui, Gordon Henderson등이 있으며, 방송/출판 분야에서도 이곳 출신의 선배들이 주요 역할을 하고 있다. 상업적 성격이 강한 디자인 학교로서 예술적인 면뿐 아니라 기업가 정신을 배우기에도 적합한 곳이라 할 수 있으며, 700명 이상의 현직 디자이너 및 예술가들의 강의와 최신 시설의 다양한 전공분야별 랩, 그리고 예술과 패션의 1번가에 위치하고 있는 이점들은 디자인 혁명의 선두주자들을 키우는데 충분한 조건을 제공하고 있다.
학위과정은 1년 과정부터 5년 과정 프로그램까지 다양하게 구성되어 있으며, Parsons는 예능과목뿐 아니라 교양 과목에도 치중하는 대학으로, 같은 학교 시스템인 New School for Social Research에서 전 학점의 5분의 1에 해당되는 교양 과목을 듣도록 의무화 하고 있다. 우리나라뿐 아니라 세계 여러 나라와 교환학생 프로그램도 진행하고 있으며, 특수 전공으로는 조명 디자인이 있다. 졸업 후에는 도나 카란, 앤디 워홀 재단, 마이크로소프트, 세븐틴 잡지 등 유명기업에서의 인턴쉽도 가능하며, 듀퐁, 리복, 페리엘리스, 코닥, 삼성 등으로 취업할 수 있는 기회도 어렵지 않게 얻을 수 있다고 알려져 있다.
